TICs are not new. I first heard of them about 10 years ago, and they have been commercially available longer than that. One TIC manufacturer defines them as follows: “A true insulating coating is one that produces temperature differentials across its surface, no matter where the coating is placed (i.e., to the hot/cold surface or inside or outside).”
